Our products measure a wide range of parameters in numerous applications. From our very solid-state pH probe to our highly innovative spectral probes, all our products are developed with the same philosophy in mind: s::can measuring instruments are intelligent, robust,and require little or no maintenance. They can be seamlessly integrated with other s::can systems but are also compatible with third-party systems.

Intelligent: All s::can sensors are intelligent, they are digital and have the controller, the brain, built in. They check their health every second and can communicate with the operator.

Optical: If possible, we always use optical methods, since they are just better, more reliable, simpler,and more accurate. If no optical method is suitable, we choose the next best alternative.

Online: We make nothing for laboratories, nothing that consumes reagents, nothing with moving parts. s::can is the only real „on-line“ company in the industry that offer an almost complete range of sensors and parameters, and nothing else.

Spectrometer Probes

All s::can spectrometer probes operate using the same measuring principle: Spectrometry. The spectrometer probes are at this point the first and only instruments in the world that can measure optical spectra from 190 to 750 nm directly in liquid media. The substances contained in the medium weaken a light beam emitted by a lamp that moves through the liquid. After contact with the medium its intensity is measured by a detector over a range of wavelengths specific to the application.

Spectrometer Probes

All s::can spectrometer probes operate using the same measuring principle: Spectrometry. The spectrometer probes are the first and only instruments in the world that can measure optical spectra from 190 to 750 nm directly in liquid media.     Supercritical Fluid Extraction SFE

    Supercritical fluid extraction processing shows numerous advantages when compared to traditional
    organic solvent extraction. In traditional extraction, for example,
    the residual solvent is unavoidable. In supercritical fluid
    extraction, however, there is no residual solvent in the final
    product. This translates into lower operating costs because of the
    reduction in post–processing steps, clean–up and safety
    measurements. Additionally, because CO2
    processing requires low temperatures, there is less deterioration of
    heat sensitive components in the extract. Furthermore, since there is
    no oxygen in the process, the potential for oxidation of the extract
    is significantly minimized.

    solvent–free pilot ⁄
    lab–scale supercritical fluid extraction systems. The

    Supercritical Fluid Particle Designs SAS and RESS

    Supercritical Anti Solvents: SAS

    Polar
    materials do not dissolve in supercritical carbon dioxide. Current
    processes involve mechanical grinding, which usually produces enough
    heat to convert these products into a paste. Typically in an SAS
    process, the material is dissolved in a solvent and then sprayed into
    a high pressure chamber filled with supercritical carbon dioxide. As
    each droplet is formed in the high pressure vessel, the carbon
    dioxide extracts the solvent leaving behind a powder with low bulk
    density. This technique is useful for pharmaceutical materials such
    as insulin, antibiotics, asthma medicine, steroids, and controlled
    release drugs. By manipulating the pressure, temperature and
    concentration, one can produce a variety of powder sizes.

    Rapid Expansion of Supercritical Solutions: RESS

    Until
    now, there was no easy way to produce micron size powders of
    thermally labile materials. Current processes involve mechanical
    grinding that often produces enough heat to convert these products
    into a paste. However, dissolving the material in supercritical
    fluids and then spraying it through a nozzle eliminates this problem.
    Typically, non–polar materials can be dissolved in supercritical
    carbon dioxide and sprayed, as in spray drying. This technique is
    called RESS, and its applications include pharmaceutical materials
    such as steroids, asthma medicine, and controlled release drugs. The
    RESS system allows the user to spray non-polar compounds through a
    nozzle from a supercritical solution. By manipulating the pressure,
    temperature and concentration, the user can manipulate powder sizes.

     

     

    Supercritical Fluid Reaction

    Supercritical
    fluid reaction is a reaction process using a supercritical fluid as a
    solvent. When a fluid is taken above a particular temperature and
    pressure (critical point of the respective fluid), it exists in a
    condition called the supercritical fluid state. The physio–chemical
    properties of a fluid in the supercritical state are in between those
    of a typical gas and liquid. For example, the density of a
    supercritical fluid can be changed by varying the pressure on the
    fluid. As a result, a supercritical fluid can have a density that
    ranges between those exhibited by gases to liquid–like values when
    the fluid is compressed at high pressures. Carbon dioxide is
    certainly the most popular fluid because of its physiological
    compatibility, non–toxicity, inflammability, easy availability,
    convenient critical parameters (Tc= 31° Celsius, Pc=7.38 MPa),
    inexpensiveness and environmental friendliness.

    The
    Supercritical
    Fluid Reaction
    (SFR) systems are built to enable the user to rapidly react multiple
    compounds with supercritical CO2,
    and extract materials of interest. The user can operate in a static,
    pressure control mode or a dynamic flow control mode. Thar produces

    Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) kits for use in pharmaceutical,
    chemical and food research laboratories.

    Supercritical Phase Monitor 20 (SPM20)

    Thar
    Instruments´ Supercritical Phase Monitor is an important tool for
    observing phase behavior and solubility of materials under pressure,
    temperature, and sample concentration conditions. The equipment
    features a variable volume viewcell body with a piston. The high
    pressure motor–driven mixer allows the user to achieve high
    stirring rates in the viewcell. The CCD camera and illumination
    source, with two sapphire windows mounted 90° apart in the body,
    provide the capability to view inside the viewcell. For temperature
    control, the viewcell body is uniformly heated using embedded
    heaters. Additionally, a simple lever–operated mechanism and a
    precision valve enable the user to increase and decrease the
    pressure, respectively, in the viewcell. A unique stand assembly
    allows viewcell rotation up to 180° that allows inversion and
    viewing of different phases (if present).
